POST FALLS - Pediatrician Ken Akey has opened Kootenai Kids Pediatrics in Post Falls.

The office at 761 N. Thornton between Highway 41 and the Walmart on Mullan Avenue is accepting new patients and accepts all insurances.

"I love what I do and I love kids," Akey said. "I will work hard to develop a rapport with people. I'm eager to jump in and develop a practice."

Kootenai Kids offers a variety of pediatric care to clients from newborn to college age. It also offers immunizations and is open to drop-in patients who are sick.

Akey has been a pediatrician for 36 years and is board-certified through the Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP).

He formerly worked for Lakeside Pediatric in Coeur d'Alene and at a children's hospital in Orange County, Calif.

Kootenai Kids will have a staff of four to start and will increase its size based on demand. Akey's wife, Laurie, is the office manager.

"We're starting humble like a mom-and-pop shop," Akey said. "I'm the little guy, but I believe I'm needed in the community."

Akey, who attends Candlelight Christian Fellowship in Coeur d'Alene, describes himself as a fundamentalist Christian who dedicates himself toward Pro Life causes.

Kootenai Kids is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

For more information or to set up an appointment, call 773-KIDS. The office is offering free sports physicals for youth during August. Call for times available.
