Take a hard look in mirror

Another tragedy with the shooting in Aurora, Colo.
What violence on innocent people, yet it’s a sign of the times, I am afraid. Just a week before, some nut blew up a bus killing a bunch of Jews on vacation, and the Syrian government is killing their own women and children by the droves.
But here at home, what is the root cause of our violence? I say look in the mirror. From the time our kids are born we spoon feed them violence as entertainment. It’s in the children’s books, it’s in their videos and violence on TV (which they watch almost from birth) is more common than not.
Then let’s look at the movie industry and the video games. We support that junk, and the more blood and guts the more we eat it up. What the heck do we expect from those we raise in that culture. We support the industries that indoctrinate our kids in that garbage.
I have never seen a Batman movie, but I bet it also was filled with violence. Those poor people in that theater got to see what real violence is up close and personal much to the heartbreak of so many.
I don’t expect things will change and doubt if this letter will touch many but hope some will think about just how much we are to blame for the monsters we help to create. Even one is way too many.

Commissioners should try to keep patio on building
I believe that an outdoor patio at the new South Campus building, which was recently cut from the county project, would not only benefit seniors during meal service during warmer weather, but also county employees and guests for socialization.
Glad the crime did not result in death
I just read the letters to the editor in the March 16 paper, and felt I must add my voice.
Atheist writer's argument doubted
Having read Mr. Wackrow’s letter of May 11 several times, I have to think even rational atheists would not agree with him. Maybe one could think that the Supreme Court’s decision on invocations could be endorsing Christianity, but on the other hand one could just as well see it as a decision that it just does not violate the Constitution, period.
