Kalispell’s high schools offer musical opportunities for those not quite in the holiday spirit.

Musicians from Flathead and Glacier high schools will give holiday concerts next week. Both schools’ shows are free and open to the public.

Flathead High School’s holiday choir concert is at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the school auditorium.

The performances will feature a wide variety of choral music by all five of Flathead High’s choral ensembles. The choirs are directed by Ellen McKenzie and accompanied by Nina Robart.

The Glacier High School Music Department will present “Amid the Falling Snow” at 4 and 7  p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, in the Glacier High School performance hall.

The choirs, under the direction of Sandee Sauer, and the Glacier High School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Sherry Simmons, will join in a festive collaboration of holiday music.

Almost 200 Glacier High musicians will perform. The audience will hear arrangements of fresh new holiday works as well as perennial favorites, such as “White Christmas,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “O Holy Night.”

The program opens with “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” and closes with the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah.” Glacier High choir alumni are invited to join the musicians on stage for the finale.

The event also includes an art show featuring works by Glacier art students, and a reception with treats created by the school’s culinary arts students.
