GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — Cases of whooping cough are cropping up in schools around Montana.

Cases have been reported by districts in Great Falls and Three Forks.

Great Falls Public Schools has reported at least seven cases in recent days.

Officials say a high school girls basketball game between C.M. Russell and Glacier was canceled after someone on the C.M. Russell bus came down with whooping cough.

Whooping cough, or pertussis, is a contagious respiratory disease that can cause severe coughing. The illness can be potentially deadly to infants or small children who are too young to be vaccinated.
