Fourth of July festivities near
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years AGO
What's more fun than a parade on the Fourth of July? A parade, a festival in the park and fireworks.
The Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce will again host the yearly event, partnering with Numerica Credit Union. The day will begin with the American Heroes parade, sponsored by Knudtsen Chevrolet. Starting at 11 a.m., the parade will run west along Sherman Avenue from Fifth Street to Government Way. Parade-goers will have the opportunity to cheer on the various military groups, pirates in ships, horses, big trucks and much more. With Kerri Thoreson acting as the parade emcee, the judging stands at Second Street and Sherman will be a hot spot.
After the parade, the Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort and Spa will sponsor the Festival in the Park, featuring vendors offering a variety of foods and products.
"Live music at the bandstand, big bouncy toys and maybe even a pie-eating contest all add to the family atmosphere," stated the Chamber's announcement of this year's events. "When the day winds down, find your favorite viewing place to watch the best fireworks show in the area. The 20-minute show is a perennial favorite and well worth the wait."
Where there are fireworks, there is a fireworks bill. Each year, the budget for the light show, traffic control, permits, waste management and other services is $52,000. It is funded primarily through donations from local businesses and individuals. Before the parade begins, the Snake Pit Derby Dames have volunteered to form the "Backwards Bucket Brigade" to collect donations from the crowd. This is the community's chance to help finance the fireworks. Parade attendees are requested to act generously.
The Boardwalk Marina, Blackwell Island Marina and Silver Beach Marina have a yearly competition to see who can raise the most in donations and each will have decorated buckets available to drop in donations.
To donate directly to the Fireworks committee, contact Diane at the Chamber, (208) 292-1635, or email her at [email protected]. Individuals or businesses that donate $500 or more will get a photo published in The Press. Donors of $1,000 or more will also receive as many as 10 tickets to watch the fireworks show from the Chamber's private patio.
