Gallatin among 3 repeat champions at state volleyball

BOZEMAN — The Gallatin Raptors made it two straight State AA volleyball titles Friday, downing Great Falls CMR in straight sets in the championship at Breeden Field House on the Montana State University campus.

The All-Class tournament concluded Friday afternoon with a total of three repeat champions. Billings Central won its second straight State A title as well; the Rams have won seven of the last nine championships. 

Circle repeated as Class C champion and picked up its fourth title overall. 

Winning their first title were the Shepherd Fillies in Class B, and they need the “if-necessary” match to do it. 


State AA 

Bozeman def. CMR 3-0

Tayah Osler had 10 kills and Malia Allen eight for the Raptors, who capped a 28-1 season with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-20 win over the Rustlers. 

Rilee Maps added two blocks and Allen had one for Gallatin; Signe Hanson had 25 assists on the Raptors’ 26 kills, and added two aces. 


State A 

Billings Central def. Havre 3-0 

Kamryn Rinker had 13 kills and Kassidy Schafer pitched in with 12 kills, an ace and two blocks for the Rams. 

CC Case had four of Central’s 11 blocks along with seven kills in the 25-19, 25-22, 25-18 win. Grace Jagodzinski had 40 assists. 


State B 

Shepherd def. Townsend 3-0 

No statistics were available for Shepherd, which lost to Townsend Wednesday night before reeling off wins over Choteau, Baker, Boulder and then the Bulldogs, twice. 

Shepherd took the second match 25-21, 27-25, 25-19 to win the title. 


State C 

Circle def. DGSG 3-1

Kate Nasner had 21 kills and 28 digs and Madeline Moline added 18 kills, three blocks and three aces for the Circle Wildcats, who beat Denton-Geraldine-Stanford-Geyser 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-16. 

Charlie Moline added 37 digs and 38 assists for the Wildcats, who trailed  Belt 2-0 before rallying in the semifinals.
