Norman Cormier

Libby native Norman G. Cormier, 80, died on April 10, 2005, at his home in Kernersville, N.C.

Born on July 24, 1924, at Libby, to John and Augusta Bolenski Cormier, Norman grew up in a house on Mill Row, attended Libby schools, graduating with the Class of 1942.

He graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1944 and served through 1946.

He attended Gonzaga University, graduating in 1950.

Norman served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean War.

A retired chemist, Norman worked for many years with the Ciba-Geigy Company.

Norman enjoyed singing and for many years sang in the Mozart Club of Winston-Salem's production of "The Messiah." He also belonged to the Triad Harmony Express and sang in his church choirs.

He was a proofreader for the Kernersville News, a member of the Tarheel Merchant Marine Alumni, belonged to the Golden K Kiwanis Club in Winston-Salem and was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Greensboro.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Amarant Kanzler Cormier of Kernersville; sons John Daniel Cormier and Paul Norman Cormier and his wife Barbara, all of Baton Rouge, La., and Thomas Aaron Cormier and his wife Debbie, Kernersville, and grandchildren Kathryn Marie Bulger, and Seth Christian and Chelsey Danielle Cormier.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 15, at Christ Lutheran Church in Greensboro with interment following at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 3505 Lawndale Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27408.

Arrangements are under care of Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home in Kernersville.
