The Flathead County Landfill will provide tours to local schools and organizations beginning today through the month of May.

The free field trips will allow students to have a guided tour of the landfill, hazardous waste center and compost garden.

Also included are hands-on activities on recycling, composting and vermiculture composting (composting with worms).

Tours for school groups, clubs or adults may be scheduled by contacting Sally Kelley, Waste Not Project assistant, at 756-8993.

Last year more than 500 students as well as numerous clubs took part in these tours. The Waste Not Project's goal is to reduce the volume and toxicity of material entering our landfill.

The project is a collaborative effort between the Flathead County Solid Waste District, Flathead Valley Community College Service Learning Program, and Citizens for a Better Flathead.
