Moscow Bears clinch a pair of IEL championships

COEUR d'ALENE — Just a handful of points behind Moscow and Lewiston, the Sandpoint boys track and field team finished third at the annual Inland Empire League Championships.
The Bulldog girls team finished fourth overall with a score of 52 points.
In addition to the Moscow boys victory, their girls also took the team title.
Sandpoint dominated the throwing events with senior Sean Lissy winning the shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 7 1/2 inches, which is a personal best. He was sixth in the discus.
"All of our field events have been scoring pretty well this season," said Lissy. "I PR'ed today, which is OK. But I think I should be throwing farther by state. I like throwing the shot a lot better. The other guys seem to do better in the discus, I just try to do my part."
Earning fourth place in both the shot and discus, Sheldon Cramer had throws of 47-3 1/4 and 141-3, respectively.
"The Sandpoint throwers have really dominated this year. It's been Sean Lissy, Brian Resso and myself," said Cramer. "Lissy won the shot, Resso won the discus today. I PR'ed by over a foot today in the shot, so I feel pretty good. We're all throwing pretty good and I just try to contribute to the scoring where I can."
Courtney Adams led the Sandpoint girls with a 200-meter victory in 27.23 seconds.
"The girls did a good job and competed well," said Sandpoint head coach David DeMers. "We just keep plugging along."
Another highlight for the girls was Christine Miller's first attempt at the mile with a time of 5 minutes, 47 seconds.
"That was a big surprise," said DeMers. "We also had a school record broken in the 300 hurdles by Blake Mahler with a time of 40.10 seconds."
"As a whole we're kind of hurting right now and we need to recover, so our focus is on regionals," said DeMers. "The base is there and I think it will carry us through."
