MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake's citywide art exhibit will soon descend upon the Moses Lake central business district, and the pedestals for those exhibits will be in their locations in the next few days.

Sculptures Without Walls will bring 14 sculpture pieces, created by artists throughout the Northwest, to various downtown locations. Those sculptures will be on display until a new group of sculptures is brought into town next spring.

The project has been in the works for the past year, and Moses Lake Museum and Art Center Director Terry Mulkey said this week that crews will begin to place the pedestals for the project Saturday. The sculptures themselves will begin to adorn their locations at the unveiling Aug. 13.

The sculptures will be displayed until May of next year, when a new series will be unveiled on city streets. Sculptures Without Walls officials have hopes to grow the number of sculptures on the project as time goes on. The artistic pieces will be on loan from the artists during their stint in Moses Lake, but those sculptures will also be on sale to the public.

On the day of the opening Aug. 13, volunteers and Moses Lake Parks and Recreation crews will start placing and securing the sculptures as early as 6 a.m. They plan to install all 14 pieces that day. Following installation, a reception for artists and the general public will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the MAC. Sculptures Without Walls officials said the general public is welcome to both watch the installation and attend the reception.

Interested citizens will also have the chance to vote for the sculpture they like best, and a People's Choice Award will be presented at the end of the exhibit. The Sculpture's Without Walls Committee has said that while most of the pieces will be rotated out, the People's Choice will be purchased as part of the exhibit's permanent collection.

The deadline to vote for the people's choice award will be April 28, 2006 and ballots and maps of sculpture locations are available at the Museum and Art Center at 228 W. Third Avenue.
