Vivian Jean Managhan, 94

Vivian Jean Managhan, 94, passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at Heritage Place in Kalispell.

She was born July 4, 1911, in Creston, to Oliver D. and Christina (Grant) Smith. Vivian received her early education in Creston schools and graduated in 1930 from Flathead County High School.

She married Leo Clifford Kinshella in Kalispell on Nov. 1, 1930, and they made their home on a farm west of the fairgrounds. After Leo's death in 1943, Vivian and her three daughters moved into town. Vivian began work in the women's department at Buttrey's Department Store, where she worked for 10 years.

She met Wilson Hugh Managhan and they were married in Missoula on May 22, 1957. The couple made their home on Wilson's ranch in Smith Valley for 40 years. After Wilson's passing in 1996, Vivian moved into Buffalo Terrace.

Vivian was very artistic. She began painting at the age of 55 and became very accomplished. She also enjoyed quilting, square dancing, knitting, crocheting and fishing. She was very active in the First Presbyterian Church and for a time with the Women Eagles.

Vivian was preceded in death by both husbands; one daughter, Barbara Jean Gronley, in 1983; four sisters; three brothers; and one granddaughter.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Lee Wagnon of Kalispell, and Dorothy Christine Joplin and husband, Bruce, of Fair Oaks, Calif.; one sister, Ada Felsman, of Kalispell; 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Vivian will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, in the Johnson Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Glenn Burfeind of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, Dec. 21, at Johnson Mortuary.

Johnson Mortuary and Crematory is caring for Vivian's family.
