The Flathead National Forest announced Friday that the McGinnis Creek Road will be closed until April to make way for salvage logging traffic.

Forest officials said the closure of the normally well-traveled McGinnis Creek Road No. 803 is intended to ensure public safety. The McGinnis Creek timber salvage project will involve considerable log truck traffic on the narrow, icy road.

The road will be closed to all motorized traffic, including snowmobiles, until April 1.

For more information on road closures due to logging activity on the Flathead Forest, call the Hungry Horse Ranger Station at 387-3800 or check the forest's Web site at: http://www.fs.fed.us/r1/flathead
