Vidal ninth in steeplechase

Former Flathead High School running standout David Vidal finished ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Carson, Calif.

Vidal, a senior at Stanford University, was timed in 8:44.22. Daniel Lincoln, running for Nike, won with a time of 8:17.27.

Vidal ran seventh in the second heat of the steeplechase on Thursday with a time of 8:47.66.

Nicole Hunt of Deer Lodge finished 11th Friday night in the women's 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:42.01.

Katie McGregor, running for Reebok, won in 31:33.82.

Former University of Montana All-American Scott McGowan finished fourth in the 1,500 meters Saturday in 3:42.59. Alan Webb won the race in 3:41.97.

Montana's Andrew Levin finished 10th in the decathlon and former MSU standout Lyle Weese failed to advance to the finals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Bree Fuqua of Polson, who competes for Oregon, placed 17th in the shot put Friday with a throw of 48-4 1/2. inches.
