Sigrid Commers, 88

Sigrid Commers, 88, a resident of Ocean Shores, Wash., died on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, Wash.

Mrs. Commers was born on Dec. 28, 1916, in Lost Wood, N.D., to parents, Peter and Karen (Hagen) Rogstad. When she was 12, her mother died and since she was the oldest of 11 children, she was responsible for raising the family.

On June 22, 1939, she was married to Alvin J. Benda in Niehart. Mr. Benda died on Sept. 24, 1984. The couple made their home in Niehart until moving to Seattle in 1942. In 1948, they returned to Montana for a year, then back to Seattle. Sigrid worked as a riveter for the Boeing Company for nearly 25 years, retiring in 1973. She moved to Ocean Shores in 2001.

On May 6, 1990, she and Roy Commers were married. He died on Nov. 29, 1996.

Mrs. Commers was an active person, having belonged to the Ocean Shores Eagles of which she was a past president, the Ocean Shores Elks where she had served on the Bingo committee, the VFW at Hogan's Corner, the Red Hat Society in Ocean Shores and the Sons of Norway in Hoquiam, Wash. She also served as a committee member for the Ocean Shores Jazz Society.

Relatives include three sons, Tom P. Benda of Snohomish, Wash., John W. Benda of Ocean Shores, and Robert D. Benda of Thailand; two sisters, Clara Lapham of Ocean Shores, and Edna Jensen of Tacoma, Wash.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Sigrid is also survived by extended family members, Geraldine and husband, Jack Lingle, and Norma Commers, six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, all of the Flathead Valley. "We will all miss you."

A sister, Hilda Wright, and seven brothers, Albert, Oscar, Emil, Carl, Martin, Paul Rogstad and Freddie Rogstad died previously.

Cremation has taken place and services were held in Ocean Shores.
