Ellen Schlegel went to be with her family and her Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, after her death at Brendan House in Kalispell.

She was born March 26, 1910, on a farm near Minot, N.D., the daughter of Axel and Martha (Swenson) Bergholm.

At the age of 20, she fell in love and married Bernard Benny Schlegel. They had one daughter, Laverna Bernie Schlegel. Shortly after her husbands passing in 1977, Ellen became the manager of the Fernwell Apartments.

As a mother, Ellen enjoyed her close relationship with her daughter. She and Bernie enjoyed working as a team to make sure the Fernwell Apartments were enjoyable for all the tenants. She had an open door to all who lived in the apartments, and always had a warm smile, cup of coffee and cookies ready. Ellen enjoyed going to luncheons and shopping with her daughter and granddaughter. She liked cooking and baking, and was a woman who was very devout in her beliefs. Her great-grandchildren were the loves of her life. Her longevity took her beyond her expectations, and she will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her.

Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Benny; her daughter, Laverna Bernie; and son- in-law, Pat Gyrion; her brother, Gus; and two sisters, Hilda and Evelyn.

She is survived by a granddaughter, Debby Hacker of Venice, Fla.; two grandsons, Bruce and Ric Ellingson, both of Kalispell; and a granddaughter, Cherise Knopp and husband, Jim, of Kalispell, and their children, Amanda Fenger, and Bryttani and Christian Knopp.

There are no services planned at this time for Ellen Schlegel. There will be no visitation.

Johnson Mortuary and Crematory is caring for Ellens family.
