Runnin' Vikes look forward to season

MOSES LAKE — The Runnin' Vikes had their last practice before the Thanksgiving holiday early Wednesday morning.

The team is preparing for the Walla Walla Classic Dec. 2-3 where Big Bend will take on Linfield JV and Mt. Hood Community College, among other teams.

The Vikes are suffering from leadership depletion early with Mark Moss, one of the three sophomores on the roster, out for the season with a shoulder injury.

"The way we're playing now, we'll be able to win some games but we have a long ways to go and room for a lot of growth and improvement," said coach Mark Poth.

Currently there is just one sophomore on the starting squad, local Antonio Walker.

"Antonio is playing very well," said Poth. "He has been rebounding well and can score down low."

Poth is also looking for some solid play from Curtiss Moseley who has been injured.

"He'll be a very good player when he's healthy," Poth said.

Two of Poth's starters are from Kentwood High School, where they were part of a state championship team, and he is looking for both players to play solid basketball throughout the season.

On offense, Poth is philosophical about his team, saying there are several players who can shoot the ball but that there is more development to be had.

"We've got a long way to go playing as a team in motion," said Poth.

Big Bend's first home game will be during the Simplot Tournament, held Dec. 9-10.
