Downtown timepiece is covered in tread marks

MOSES LAKE — A stopped clock is right at least twice a day and for Moses Lake the downtown clock is correct at 11:21 a.m. or maybe p.m.

The clock at the intersection of Third Avenue and Ash Street does not have power, City Engineer Richard A. Law said. The power source will come from Sinkiuse Square restrooms but they are not completed, he added.

When the bathrooms are finished, the clock will be hooked up to the power source, Law said. An exact date for restroom completion is not set.

Some drivers are not clear how to drive around the clock at the intersection, he added.

It is obvious how to turn right and go straight past the clock, he said. Some people are turning a direct left rather than going around the clock to complete their left turn.

People must go around the clock to avoid a potential vehicle collision while turning left, he added.

Drivers need to be careful driving around the clock. The protective concrete barrier sitting at the bottom of the clock is already streaked with tire marks, Law said.

He is not sure if it is large vehicles or small vehicles causing the marks.

"Large vehicles can, with care, successfully negotiate a straight through movement, but will find right turns very difficult if puling a long trailer and left turns are extremely difficult," Law noted. "These vehicles would be best served to pick an alternative route or if they must enter the downtown area, pick a route that allows a straight through movement in the intersection."
