Gregoire discussed connection between libraries and schools

MOSES LAKE — Washington state Gov. Chris Gregoire's husband Mike Gregoire visited the Moses Lake Public Library Monday.

Mike Gregoire reads to third grade students all over Washington state, he said. He was at the Moses Lake Public Library to learn about the facility and programs offered to the schools.

He discussed the importance of the connection between the library and the school system.

Libraries are important, he said. They offer after-school programs benefiting the youth in conjunction with what they are learning at school, programs for the elderly and programs for bilingual citizens, Gregoire added.

Librarian Connie Kuhlmann said it is exciting to have him visit the library and touch base with the community.

Kuhlmann gave Gregoire a tour of the library facility while he signed autographs for children.

Library Outreach Services representative Deborah McVay presented Mike Gregoire with information about the bilingual programs at the library.

McVay offers reading programs to children at the library in English, Spanish and American Sign Language.

"It is important to break down communication barriers," Mike Gregoire said.
