MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Grange Hall was renamed Friday in honor of DeForest "Huck" Fuller.
The facility, located at the Grant Count Fairgrounds, is now the Huck Fuller Building. Fuller passed away on Dec. 2, 2000. His wife, Nell Fuller, was in attendance at the naming ceremony.
"This is just such a great honor, to honor him like that," Nell Fuller said.
She said her son and daughter hoped to make it to the event but were unable to.
Huck and Nell Fuller joined the Moses Lake Grange in 1943. In 1949, the concrete foundation for the building was poured and used as a dance floor for the 1949 Grant County Fair. In 1950 the hall opened for local Grange meetings. For more than 20 years, Huck Fuller served as grand master of the Grange Hall. During that time, Huck and Nell Fuller cleaned up after events nearly every Saturday.
The nickname "Huck" came from a love of huckleberries during childhood.
Fair Board Chair Bill West said he knows Huck Fuller best from their years of service together on the Grant County Board of Adjustments.
"When I walk into this building, my first and last thought will be of Huck and what a great guy he was," West said.
He said he is going to think of Nell too.
The decision to name the building was made by the county commissioners.
"It was an opportunity to recognize Huck and Nell for their years of service to the Grange, the fair and the community," Grant County Commissioner Deborah Moore said.
