Holmes joins Herald staff
MOSES LAKE - Even while Chaz Holmes worked in market research, he was consistently looking for a position at a newspaper.
"I've always wanted to work in newspaper," he said. That's because he's always enjoyed the use of words to inform and entertain people.
A native of Covington, Holmes started at the Columbia Basin Herald as news assistant Oct. 30.
Prior to his arrival, he was working in market research after attending the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University, where he majored in journalism and mass communication.
"When I saw the opportunity to come here, that really appealed to me, because I like copy editing and I enjoy the newspaper as a whole," Holmes said. "Working with one and helping with the daily production of it really appealed to me."
Holmes enjoys the fact journalism changes every day, and affords him the opportunity to explore different topics.
Outside of work, Holmes enjoys movies, trying to see one every weekend. While film noir is his favorite genre, his favorite movie is Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park," he said.
He also watches film critics Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper every Sunday night, and said he tends to agree with Roeper a little bit more than Ebert.
He follows pop culture, politics and enjoys board games with friends or reading at a coffee shop.
