Majority of residents favor Sand Creek route

I'm curious as to why Thomas Nelson believes his opinion regarding the byway reflects the "majority" of the citizens of Sandpoint. Was there a poll conducted recently that I'm unaware of? Without a scientific poll, it is irresponsible to make such an assertion.

In addition, the suggestion that we build a tunnel through Sandpoint instead of the byway is absurd! I understand that this idea has never been engineered and, constructing such a structure in these soils would be like trying to dig to China. Anyone who has lived in the area for any length of time knows that this town is named "Sand"-point for a reason. Besides, why do you think a tunnel would be more environmentally acceptable than the byway? I think it would be much more destructive.

I agree that it is time to move on. If you disagree with the concept of the byway and have an "acceptable" (proven financially, environmentally, and structurally sound) alternative to what is currently being proposed, than let's hear it. Continuing to muddy the waters with "pie in the sky" and imprudent ideas only detracts from the real issue at hand, i.e. resolving the traffic problems through Sandpoint.

In the meantime, let's work together to implement a solution once and for all. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem!
