Entertainment guide gets makeover

MOSES LAKE — The Columbia Basin Herald guide to entertainment options looks a little different today.

The title changes from the "Columbia Basin Television Viewer's Guide" to "On Entertainment" and is part of a package from the company suppling television data information, said Columbia Basin Herald Production Manager Curt Weaver*.

"We've expanded it from a 16-page tab or guide to a 20-page guide," he said.

The expansion includes such new features as a page devoted to local entertainment listings, reviews of current or pending movies, top box office hits, a wide variety of new music, a book review and an On Media page, which Weaver said is akin to a video game review.

"There's a page that's called the Critics' Corner, which is just looking at six or eight television programs during the course of the week," he said. "It just kind of highlights those several programs and what's happening on that particular program."

As in the past, one page will be devoted to the cover story.

The balance of the guide is the normal television grids. Weaver notes daytime scheduling formats have changed. They will not necessarily list everything on TV, but highlight specific programming in what he called a running log. Evening programming remains a grid as in the past.

A horoscope was added.

Weaver feels the changes gives readers more entertainment-related news.

"It will be an outlet for entertainment-type news, features that will make this product not just a resource for channels and programming, but also a resource for other sources of entertainment," he said. "The local angle, too, you will be able to see even what's coming up weeks ahead in the community as far as plays, theatrical productions, concerts, etc., that are coming."

Weaver said the guide is evolving, noting that local content may ultimately expand beyond the Moses Lake area and include listings from some of the concerts and offerings in Spokane and the Tri-Cities.
