Victim's family restrains suspect for police

MOSES LAKE — A 44-year-old physically handicapped man was fatally stabbed repeatedly in his bed Thursday night on Hayden Drive in Moses Lake.

The suspect is a family acquaintance who reportedly walked into the victim's bedroom and began stabbing him until the victim's wife and daughter stopped him, reported Moses Lake Police Chief Dean Mitchell.

"They were able to push him out of the room … and then he apparently stabbed himself," said Mitchell. "It is a serious wound."

Suspect Daniel E. Lybbert, 20, Moses Lake, is in custody and recovering from the self-inflicted wound at Samaritan Hospital, said Mitchell. Police anticipate booking Libbert on a charge of murder.

Paramedics and police were initially confused upon arrival at the home due to having two people with stab wounds and the suspect being in the living room with the victim's wife and daughter. Lybbert allegedly cooperated with police during the arrest.

"Why the suspect did this, we really don't know," said Mitchell.

Police continue the investigation.
