Track, wastewater facility being built

WARDEN — The Warden City Council discussed the future of a racetrack and the municipal wastewater treatment facility Tuesday night.

Warden entered a contract with a go-cart business to allow them to operate within the city.

M and G Fast Carts is installing a racetrack on Main Street, Mayor Roldan Capetillo said. The construction is nearing completion in the next few days.

He expects the track to attract youth to engage in a positive activity.

Once the track opens, people can also rent go-carts at the facility.

An additional $3 million was secured for a new municipal wastewater facility from the state capital budget last week.

The city collected more than $6 million in assistance for the project, Capetillo said.

The collection of the funds began three years ago. The new facility will replace the current outdated system. The project is expected to go to bid in the fall.

A zero percent interest loan will be used to cover the remaining funds needed for the project. He said nearly $3 million is needed. The city will continue to pursue grants and other assistance to reach their goal and to lessen the amount borrowed.
