Vehicle entries more than doubled

SOAP LAKE — Ask Dan Feigal how long it takes his car to go from zero to 60 mph and he'll tell you it only takes a heartbeat.

Feigal entered his 1968 Oldsmobile 442 W30 convertible at the third annual Soap Lake Hog Run Friday afternoon.

"It's just fun cruising around," he said. "It's a car show everywhere I go. It's a head turner."

When he is first in line at a red traffic signal, he is the first to speed away as soon as the light turns green, he said. Often times he looks back a quarter mile and the other cars are still at the intersection watching him.

After Feigal rebuilt the interior, exterior, under the hood and gave the car a new paint job, he renamed it. He now calls "her" Bubbles. His custom paint job shimmers into various colors when the sun hits it, like a bubble does, he said.

Previously the car was named Babe.

After the facelift and new personality to go with the paint job, it needed a new name, he added.

Feigal bought the car when he was in high school in the 1980s and doesn't plan on parting with it.

He recalls purchasing the car for $3,500 and estimates it is now worth $50,000.

The hog run featured various cars and trucks ranging from classic to antique to super sport to PT cruisers.

Event organizer Mike Eby said the number of vehicle entries is up from last year, more than double.

He said the event is growing quickly and expects more than 120 vehicle entries.

The purpose of the event is to have fun, he said.

"A lot of car guys are having fun," Eby said. "Everybody wants to talk about what their cars can do."

Ron Heer, Ephrata, said he is a regular at the annual event.

He enjoys seeing the different types of vehicles and keeping up on the latest upgrades.
