While the Loggers competed in the Buzz Lucey Tournament last weekend in Eureka, placing fourth, coach Jay Graham took two juniors to compete individually in the Tri-State Tournament in Coeur d'Alene.

"We only took two kids," said Graham, "over there the competition is just unbelievable," he said. "It shows you where you need to work on and it overemphasizes what you need to get better on."

Representing Libby, Seth Wright (152), placed 8th - winning three and losing three, while Justin Graham (189), won two and lost two matches.

Flathead won the tournament in a landslide, with 208 points to Lake Stevens, WA's 155 points.

Assistant coach Todd Schatz, who took the rest of the team to Eureka, said he was pretty happy with their effort.

"It was really close; the boys wrestled well," said Schatz, "except for Kalispell - they ran away with the tournament."

Kalispell Flathead JV won with 257.5, followed by Columbia Falls with 195.5. Eureka took third with 149 and Libby claimed fourth with 136.

Schatz noted that the tournament was harder than in the past.

"We were pretty happy," said Schatz, "We have a young team that is steadily getting better," he added.

The Finals second round saw Levi Edwards-Myslicki (119) losing to Jerimiah Gaiser (Flathead) with a fall of 1:59.

Also in the second round, at 135 pounds, Kyle Sweedman lost to Taylor Vaughn (Eureka) with a decision of 6-4.

In the third round of the Finals, Dakota Bassatt (112) pinned Hunter Fishel of Columbia Falls in :26 seconds.

Also in the third round, Charlie Berget (140) won with a Fall of 3:57 to Chase Gomer of Flathead and Kody Berget (145) won with a Fall of :45 to Adam Moore of Noxon.

And Lucas Puckett (189) won with a Fall of :35 to Evan O'Brien (Libby) in the third round.

In the fourth round, Patrick Wood (215) lost to Cody Kenfield in overtime with a 4-6 decision and Cody Elliot lost to Alhondro (Flathead) with a Fall of 1:59.

Next week they wrestle Glacier High School, a new high school in Kalispell.

"They're a big mystery," said Schatz. "I know they'll be pretty tough."
