MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake's future elementary school is closer to having a name.

Special Assistant to the Superintendent P.J. De Benedetti said at a Thursday meeting a committee tasked with recommending a name for the school narrowed its options to four possible names.

Neppel Elementary School, South Pointe Elementary School, Sage Pointe Elementary School, and Lake Pointe Elementary School were four names the committee found appealing, De Benedetti said.

According to district policy, schools can be named after people who have attained prominence in certain fields, after certain political figures, or after geographic characteristics within the school's vicinity.

The committee decided to focus on geographic characteristics rather than on a person in recommending a name for the school, De Benedetti said.

"After some discussion, they decided they wanted to stick with geographic names," he said.

He anticipated a final recommendation for the school board would be ready in time for the next board meeting January 10.

Committee members could come up with a list with more than one name in order of preference, he said.
