Red Devils cage Rams in 30-6 win

The Plains-Hot Springs Savage Horsemen had only one physical loss in their wrestling meet against the Arlee Warriors Saturday. And each one of the Savage Horsemen's wins was done with a pin. Nevertheless, the Warriors walked away the victors with a score of 48-36 after chalking up 42 points in forfeits at the Plains-hosted meet. However, Plains-Hot Springs claimed a 42-12 victory during its duals against Loyola.

Kenny Marjerrison's Savage Horsemen picked up six pins Saturday in varsity competition against Arlee, one pin against the Rams, and several pins during exhibition matches.

The Noxon Red Devils, coached by Kelly Moore, also defeated the Loyola Rams 30-6, but lost to Arlee 54-27.

Nearly 50 wrestlers from the four schools met on the mats for about two and a half hours Saturday. Arlee had the largest team with 15 grapplers; Loyola had only four and Noxon took six to the meet.

Mike Hines, competing in the 189-pound weight class, had the fastest pin for Plains-Hot Springs when he defeated Warrior Curt Seidel in 1:04 with a 30-second pin. Hines later went on to pin Arlee's Ethan Willoughby in 1:19 in an exhibition match.

Teammate Kyle Steinebach, the first wrestler of the day, pinned Eneas Inmee of Arlee in three minutes, 17 seconds in the 145-pound class. Steinebach also pinned Savage Horseman Wes Goodwin, wrestling in the 152 class, pinned Arlee's Damon Cordier in 3:15. Goodwin picked up his second pin in an exhibition match against Bryce Norling, also of Arlee, winning in 2:45. Austin Thompson of the 171-pound class pinned Willoughby in 1:34. In an exhibition match, Thompson pinned Seidel in 1:04.

And Rio Crismore, one of two girls on the Savage Horsemen team, pinned Cass Kline of Arlee in 1:35 in the 98-pound class. Crismore faced Warrior Mariah Hoskinsen, who competes at 112 pounds, and won 6-4. Steinebach pinned Damon Cordier of the Warriors in 1:51 in an exhibition match.

During the Plains-Loyola duals, Goodwin was ahead 5-2 when he pinned Kevin Berland of Loyola in 41 seconds. The remaining Ram wins for Plains-Hot Springs were the result of forfeits. Goodwin later grabbed a pin in 43 seconds during an exhibition match against Ram Alex Ward, who normally wrestles in the 160-pound class.

Caplen Weare of the Red Devils was ahead 7-6 when he pinned Berland in 5:30 in the 160-pound class. In exhibition matches between Noxon and Loyola, Adam Moore of the 145-pound class pinned Berland in 1:52. He also won an exhibition match with a 3:45 pin against Cordier. Teammate Justin Russell, wrestling in the 125 class, pinned Loyola's Connor Collin in 2:24.

Russell pinned Warrior Shane Gillette in 1:36. Moore beat Eneas Inmee of Arlee 10-7, and Weare defeated Warrior Bryce Norling with a 1:26 pin.

Joe Gerstenberger, competing in the 171-pound class, pinned Willoughby of the Warriors in 1:50, then went on to a 50-second pin in an exhibition match against Curt Seidel, who normally wrestles in the 189-pound class.

The Savage Horsemen are scheduled to participate in the Ronan Tournament Jan 4-5 and at Choteau Jan. 11-12. Noxon will travel to Cutbank Jan 4-5 and will be at Choteau.
