Police negotiate surrender

MOSES LAKE — A five-hour standoff ended with the surrender of a man suspected of firing a pistol at another man in Moses Lake Tuesday morning.

Moses Lake Police arrested Anthony P. Torres, 26, for assault in the first degree, according to police Chief Dean Mitchell.

Just after midnight on Tuesday, Torres was allegedly arguing with a man on Grand Drive, Moses Lake Police Capt. Dave Ruffin said. The dispute escalated and Torres allegedly fired a single round at the victim from a handgun.

The victim was not injured.

After firing the shot, Torres reportedly fled to a house on Alderwood Drive and refused to surrender to Moses Lake Police, according to Ruffin.

Police activated the Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team and summoned negotiators in an attempt to extract Torres from the residence.

At 5:15 a.m., more than four hours after the shots was fired, Torres reportedly surrendered without further incident.

Officers are searching the home on Alderwood drive to locate the firearm and any additional evidence, Mitchell said.

"We were trying to figure out, number one, why he was in that house … number two, if we could locate the firearm at the residence," said Mitchell.

The investigation continues.
