Flathead County Commissioners on Monday approved a set of minimum standards for the county's roads.

The document outlines the exact standards the county requires to build roads for different transportation needs. It's a culmination of six months of work done by a group of engineers and the county's planning and road departments. According to Flathead County Road Superintendent Guy Foy, the group gathered and compiled all of the standards into one simple document.

Commissioner Dale Lauman called the new standards a great accomplishment for the county.

The minimum standards will work in conjunction with county planning documents. The proposed subdivision regulations reference the minimum road standards rather than listing its own.

Within the next few weeks the standards will be available at the road department and on its Web site, at http://co.flathead.mt.us/road/index.html.
