Council discusses possible noise

WARDEN — The possibility of a business locating in Warden was met with support from Warden city council and a concern regarding potential noise.

Keith Rupprecht spoke on behalf of a manufacturing company looking to locate in Warden. The name of the company was not divulged, but Rupprecht said he received three calls last week from businesses looking at property in Warden.

"I think it's really interesting that we've got somebody who wants to come in from the outside who wants to bring a new business into town and I think that we should be supportive," he said.

Rupprecht said the buyer didn't want to burden the council or the community and was concerned about how he is being perceived by the town. Concerns included the businesses' effect on community spirit and its possible production of noise.

Work at the company may go into the evening, and involve metal grinding sounds which council feared could disrupt residents.

Mayor Roldan Capetillo said the property is commercial/residential property and Treasurer Kriss Shuler said R1-B allows both types of use, so the location is not an issue, just noise.

Shuler said an ordinance restricts noise after 10 p.m., so the company shouldn't make noise after then.

Rupprecht told council he would relay the discussion to the owner.

Capetillo said the council is supportive and the owner has a respectful attitude, but council said more specifics are needed addressing the specific work done by the company and the level of noise created.
