Council waits for more information

WARDEN — Warden is waiting to hear more information from Royal City regarding a dog ordinance banning specific breeds.

Council discussed holding a public meeting on the matter before voting on whether to adopt it.

The town is considering adopting the ban on pit bulls and rottweilers and have so far heard most people from Royal City are content with the city's ban.

Councilmember Rick Pruneda expressed his desire to see Warden's existing dog ordinance further enforced and questioned who would enforce the breed ban, if adopted.

Police Chief Ken Krebs said it would be enforced by the police department, possibly with animal control.

Pruneda mentioned a time he witnessed a police vehicle stop to allow an unattended dog to cross a street, and then drove off.

A silence followed before discussion resumed.

Councilmember Tony Massa said he does not favor cracking down on specific breeds and suggested allowing the breeds but requiring kennels and kennel inspections.

Council said of possibly hundreds of dogs in Warden, around 30 have licenses.

The issue was tabled.
