Warden council worried

WARDEN — Warden City Council worries people who would like to attend a future Grant County commissioners meeting in Warden will not have the opportunity.

The meeting is scheduled for April 4 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Warden City Hall.

"This is a working community. We are a farm community," Mayor Roldan Capetillo said. "We can't meet with them at that time."

All but one councilmember works during the day and it is likely they will not be able to attend, City Administrator Mike Thompson said. The councilmember who does not work during the day is ill and may not be able to attend the meeting.

The commissioners hold the meetings to discuss issues facing the community with citizens. They plan to hold one meeting with each city in Grant County.

Capetillo said he and his fellow councilmembers have many concerns to discuss with the commissioners including how the burn ban affects their city and how to handle requests for funding from the Grant County Health District.

Capetillo said the commissioners should hold the meeting at a time when a large number of people can attend. The mayor and council plan to write a letter to the commissioners to request a better time, possibly after 5 p.m.

Grant County Commissioner Cindy Carter said she was not aware the meeting time was an issue and would look into the matter herself. She said she would attempt to change the meeting time.

Grant County Commissioner LeRoy Allison said the meeting will most likely stay as scheduled to gauge public attendance. An additional evening meeting will be held if attendance is low or if a large number of people who wish to attend could not, he added.

He expects to address issues regarding municipal and industrial waste water, city wells and the biodiesel facility.
