Quincy, Othello, Ephrata receive excellent ratings

YAKIMA — Moses Lake defended their 4A title in the drill competition and picked up a championship in pom at the WIAA Dance and Drill Championship at the Yakima Sundome Saturday.

The Molahiettes earned superior ratings, the top rating a team can receive for a routine, in both drill and pom competitions. Moses Lake scored 483 points in drill to outdistance second-place Decatur with 466.

In pom, Moses Lake received a 464 score, enough to hold off Lewis and Clark of Spokane for the title. Moses Lake and Lewis and Clark were the only two schools to receive superior ratings in the pom competition. The win in pom was an improvement over Moses Lake's second-place finish in the event in 2006.

Other Basin teams competing at state were Quincy, which received excellent ratings in both 3A kick and color guard/prop/production categories. The Lady Jacks finished second in color guard/prop/production with 392 points and fourth in kick with 391 points in the 3A classification.

In 2A pom, Othello received an excellent rating, scoring 387 points. Ephrata also competed in the event, scoring 364 points and also receiving an excellent rating. The Lady Huskies were unable to defend their 2006 2A hip hop title, finishing fourth in the competition with 417 points and an excellent rating.
