Team must win Friday

ELLENSBURG — The Quincy Jacks baseball team will be faced with a must-win situation Friday.

The Jacks fell to the Ellensburg Bulldogs 7-1 on Tuesday night in the opening round of the Central Washington Athletic Conference playoffs. Quincy got solid relief pitching from Marc Garza and Jacob Jahns and out-hit the Bulldogs 8-7, but never got the big inning it needed.

"We just couldn't put our hits together," Quincy head coach Larry Gonzales said.

A first-inning error led to three Ellensburg runs against Quincy starting pitcher Isaiah Suarez. The Bulldogs made it 5-0 in the second inning with some timely hitting, and Gonzales yanked Suarez with two outs in the fourth and Quincy down 7-0. Ellensburg scored four runs with two outs in the game.

The only Quincy run came in the fifth when Garza connected for a solo home run off Ellensburg's Scott Cooper.

Quincy now moves into a loser-out game in the double-elimination format. The Jacks play Wapato in Othello on Friday at 4 p.m.
