Chance Buck scores an 84

TOPPENISH — The Warden Cougars boys golfers defeated Zillah Leopards on Monday afternoon at the 6,292-yard, par-72 Mount Adams Golf Course.

The Cougars knocked off the Leopards 374-385, getting a team-best 12-over-par 84 from Chance Buck. Robby Horn (96), Nate Stott (96) and Chris Kalous (98) rounded out the team's scoring field, with Ben Bisnett (100) finishing off Warden's competitors.

Buck's meet-winning 84 was four strokes better than second-place competitor Stephen Adams of Zillah.

"It was a great turnaround for him because he probably had the worst round of his life last Thursday," Warden coach Steve Tolley said, referring to Buck's 106 last week. "He's a senior, so we're still planning on him continuing on and doing the best he can at the state tournament."

In girls action, the Cougars finished at 493, defeating an incomplete Zillah squad. Kim McPartland shot a team-best 97, followed by Haley Buck (117), Lizeth Rodrigues (135) and Lori Ramirez (144).

Both squads return to their home course at Sage Hills on Thursday, hosting the sub-district meet with other South Central Athletic Conference schools. Golfers who score in the top half at that event move on district play, May 16 at Suncadia Golf Course near Cle Elum. State action takes place in Bellingham on May 22-23.
