State golfers have busy Tuesday in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM — Several Columbia Basin high school golfers are still in contention for a medal following first-round state tournament action on Tuesday.
In the 1A boys tournament at North Bellingham Golf Course, Royal's Joe Perkins and DJ Solis made the cut and are within reach of a top 10 finish. Perkins, a senior, shot a 79 and is tied for 15th place. Solis, a junior, shot an 80 and is tied for 19th. Ilwaco sophomore Jack Whealdon and Colfax junior Kyle McPherson tied for the first-round lead at 72.
Solis was scheduled to tee off for Wednesday's second round at 10:39 a.m. and was paired with Freeman's Max Riggs and Jon Forgey of Naches Valley. Perkins was scheduled to tee off at 10:48 a.m. against Bellevue Christian's Seppi Hunter and Chelan's Cameron Reister.
Royal's Trevor Iverson (95) and Eric Spartveit (100), along with Warden's Chance Buck (97) and Ben Bisnett (98) failed to make the cut, which was 85.
At the 4A boys tournament at Shuksan Golf Club, Moses Lake's Zac McDougall and Rick Gleed both squeezed into second-round play. Both shot a 75, which was the cut. Eisenhower senior Patrick Boag was the first-round leader at 67.
McDougall was in Wednesday's second threesome, teeing off at 8:09 a.m. with Kamiak's Johnny Carey and Jackson's Ryan Young. Gleed teed off nine minutes later with Wilson's James VanAlstine and Mead's Erick Henderson.
Three Central Washington Athletic Conference golfers made the cut at the 2A boys tourney at Bellingham Golf and Country Club. Othello's Brandon Hoksbergen was at 79 and tied for 28th place with teammate Jason Brault a shot back in 30th place. Ephrata junior Austin Key shot an 82, right at the cut line, and is tied for 40th.
Key teed off in Wednesday's first threesome at 8 a.m., paired against Kramer Henson of Steilacoom and Josh Scothorne of Fife. Brault went at 8:22 a.m. against Port Townsend's Justin Grauberger and Lakewood's Kelan Noteboom. Hoksbergen was paired with South Whidbey's Juan Fernandez and Jason Molner of Mark Morris for an 8:37 a.m. start.
Ephrata's Matt Pixlee (85) and Justin Scheib (88), along with Quincy's Kevin Beirsner (88), missed the cut.
Quincy's Hannah Ferguson was the only local to make the cut at the 2A girls tourney at Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club. The senior shot a 95, 22 strokes back of first-round leader Katie Sharpe of Bellingham. The cut was 97.
Othello's three state participants all missed the cut, with Ashley Amoruso and Katie Gardner at 98 and Meghan Olsen at 102. Ephrata's BreAnne Duff (104) and Chanel Durham (120), along with Quincy's Kimi Goto (108), are also out.
Ferguson teed off Wednesday at 7:27 a.m. against Selah's Dani Gunner and Aberdeen's Karley Wagner.
Lind had four golfers in the 1B/2B tourney at Lake Padden GC. For the boys, sophomore Ian Fitch and junior Bradley Neilan both hit the cut line of 93. Senior Ray Grams shot a 98. For the girls, senior KyLee Schmunk finished at 100. Complete girls results were unavailable at press time.
In the 1A girls tourney at North Bellingham GC, Royal's Alyssa Presgraves shot a 96. Teammates Shelby Forester and Laura Perkins were both at 103. Warden's Kim McPartland finished at 111. Complete results were unavailable at press time.
