Sadie Maude Shook was "received into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior" on Sunday morning, Nov. 4, 2007.

Sadie was born the seventh of eight children Oct. 5, 1927, on the family farm in Woodbine, Iowa, to George Robert and Rhoda Alveda Carrier Conyers.

Sadie spent the first half of her life mainly in Council Bluffs, Iowa. There, she met and married Byron Earl Shook. They were blessed with three children.

In 1967, she moved with her children to Azusa, Calif., where she worked for the credit bureau, State Farm Insurance, and eventually owned her own bureau. She also served as church secretary for four pastors. Upon retirement in 1996, she joined her daughter and family in Whitefish. She became active in her church, the Whitefish Golden Agers, and the Moose.

Sadie was an avid reader. She also loved working on her computer, playing games (especially pinochle and Mexican Train), doing crafts, participating in and leading Bible studies, and being with her friends and family.

In her 11 remaining years spent in the Flathead Valley, she made many more dear friends. She'll be remembered for her beautiful smile, her kind and gentle nature, her witty sense of humor, her very strong work ethic, her devotion and love for her family, and her deep, unfailing faith in God.

Sadie is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

She is survived by her three children: son Earl and his wife, Melanie Shook, of Greenville, Texas; son George Shook of Omaha, Neb.; and daughter, Teresa, and her husband, Tom Frieze, of Whitefish.

She is survived by 11 grandchildren: granddaughter Mollie and her husband, Coy Dalton, of Weeki Wachee, Fla.; granddaughter Katherine and her husband, Bobby Fenton, and granddaughter Jessica and her husband, Cody Echols, all of Arlington, Texas; grandson David and his wife, Carissa Shook, of Irving, Texas; granddaughter Lydia and her husband, Chase Potter, of Greenville, Texas; granddaughters Emily, Anna, and Sarah Shook of Greenville; granddaughter Amanda Frieze of Arcadia, Calif.; grandson Andrew Frieze of Bozeman; and granddaughter Allison Frieze of Whitefish.

She is also survived by five precious great-grandchildren: Casey, Abigail, Hayden, Emma, and Luke. In addition, she leaves behind many nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, at the Whitefish Church of the Nazarene.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Whitefish Church of the Nazarene or the Whitefish Golden Agers.
