OTHELLO - An Othello City Council member was honored for his service to the city Monday night.
Councilmember Everett Cole was presented with the 2007 Civic Service Award for his 26 years of service to the city.
Mayor Shannon McKay presented the award and a letter of recognition on behalf of the Association of Washington Cities (AWC). The letter was written by the president of AWC, Richard M. Munson.
"I want to thank you for your 26 years of service to the City of Othello," McKay read. "Your dedication and commitment to your community is exemplary and is most deserving of this special recognition."
Some of Cole's contributions to the city included involvement with economic development, negotiating a fire services agreement and negotiating with labor unions.
"I can safely say that it is truly rare for a person to serve as a councilmember for as many years as you have," the mayor read. "But not only have you served, you have served well."
After the award was presented, Cole said laughing, the 26 years of service translates to hundreds of council meetings.
