COULEE CITY - The Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors kept on rolling last Friday night and, as a result, are in a position to take a huge step toward a Northeast 1B football title this week.

The Warriors scored 24 points in the first quarter en route to a 38-8 victory over the Cusick Panthers. ACH senior running back Jordan Hughes had a tremendous outing, rushing for 252 yards on 13 carries and scoring three touchdowns.

The win moved ACH to 3-0 overall and keeps them in good shape heading into this week's key league game against the Odessa Tigers, 52-0 winners over Pateros last week. Game time this Friday at Odessa's Finney Field is 7 p.m.

"It's important that we get better each week and I felt like we took another step in that direction," ACH head coach Brandon Walsh said. "Hopefully we're clicking on all cylinders this week when we face Odessa."

Hughes got the Warriors off to a fast start against Cusick, scoring the game's first points on a 55-yard run. Kyle Tucker caught a two-point conversion pass from Josh Goodwin, and ACH led 8-0.

A 65-yard Hughes run, followed by another Goodwin-to-Tucker conversion pass, increased ACH's lead to 16-0. The Warriors capped their huge first period on a 9-yard hookup from Goodwin to Tucker, with Goodwin finding Zack Pryor on the ensuing two-point play.

Neither team scored again until the fourth quarter. That's when Hughes broke loose for his third long TD run of the night, this one from 70 yards, to bring ACH's lead to 30-0.

Cusick scored on a 30-yard run, but the Warriors got the final blow in when Goodwin hit Cody Leander on a 55-yard TD pass. Grayson Sizemore's two-point conversion run capped the scoring.
