Twelve dogs ready for adoption

MOSES LAKE - Grant County Animal Outreach sent 12 dogs to Washington State University (WSU) last week to be spayed, nuetered and microchipped.

The dogs are scheduled to return next week, Outreach President Harmony White said.

The surgeries are performed by fourth-year veterinary program students with instructor supervision, she said. The dogs will recover at WSU.

The animals are available for adoption and can be reserved for adoption before they return to the animal shelter.

The animals; Aladdin, Whitey, Heff, Shasta, Kusco, Shade, Peta, Smokey, Gucci, Chowder, China and Sebastion can be viewed on Petfinder.com for those interested in adoption, White said. The Web site features a biography on each animal.

It costs $80 to adopt one of the dogs.

Several more dogs will go to WSU for surguries next week, she added.

The animal shelter staff remain positive because feline adoptions are increasing, White said. Right now is the time of year when kittens are born and the shelter employees and volunteers are working to move several pregnant cats and mother cats with kittens to rescue organizations and new homes, she said.

Dogs are being sent to various rescue organizations since the shelter re-opened after a disease contamination, White said. Several animals still need to be moved to rescue organizations. She said the shelter can reimburse some transportation costs for people who are able to transport an animal.
