Clara May Brodniak, 93,

passed away on April 18, 2008, at the Brendan House in Kalispell. She was born on Jan. 6, 1915, in Missoula to Ira and Adelaide Salsbury. She was one of nine children.

Clara received her early education in St. Ignatius, where her family moved to farm and ranch.

She married Edward Anthony Brodniak in 1934. Together they raised four sons. The family moved to Kalispell in 1951.

Clara enjoyed her vegetable gardens, canning and growing flowers. She also enjoyed painting by number for a time, and playing around with decorating clothing with paints and beads.

Clara was preceded in death by all of her siblings, her husband, and three sons.

She is survived by her son, Robert Brodniak, of Jacksonville, N.C.

No services are planned for Clara at this time.

Climate change awards announced

Climate Smart Glacier Country announced its Climate Smart Champions during a ceremony at the Earth Day celebration April 21 in Whitefish. Awards were presented to businesses, youth and an individual who are leaders in building local solutions to climate change challenges.
