MOSES LAKE - Twenty-one racers put their vehicles through two jumps and 135-foot mud pits at the Grant County Fairgrounds Saturday.

The Nightscare Production 2008 Tough Truck Competition pitted racers in five different classes based on engine size and whether they were modified.

Organizer Randy Reynolds said the event was to raise funds for charity.

"It went really well," said Reynolds. "We raised money for Relay for Life and that is what it was about."

In front of about 130 spectators, the racers paired up to race the course. Reynolds said winners were determined with a best two-out-of-three race at the end of the day.

Mud wasn't the only thing flying during the event.

Gabe Adame tried to ride a Honda 500 motorcycle through the mud pit, but flipped the motorcycle and landed in the mud, said Reynolds. Adame was part of the security provided by the Unchained Brotherhood.

The event netted $800 for Relay for Life. Reynolds said they hope to generate more awareness of the event for its return next year.

"You live and learn when you put on an event for the first time," said Reynolds.

The winners of the Tough Truck competition were:

  • 4 Cylinder Stock Class - Robert Berko
  • 6 Cylinder Stock Class - Andy Larson
  • V-8 Stock Class - Brian Perry
  • V-8 Modified Class - Daniel Buchaman
  • X Class - Dave Redwine
