One arrested, one remains at large

ADAMS COUNTY - After a high-speed vehicle pursuit Wednesday morning, an Othello man was arrested for involvement in two burglaries near Othello.

Adams County sheriff's deputies continue searching for a second man who fled from law enforcement.

Deputies were dispatched toward West Phillips Road, 14 miles west of Othello, where a woman advised of seeing two men fleeing after allegedly burglarizing her home.

Sheriff Doug Barger said the burglars left after seeing the homeowner. She was not injured.

It was later discovered the two men reportedly burglarized an apartment in the West Phillips Road area as well.

The two suspects, Carlos Juarez, 21, Othello, and a man whose identity has not been released, fled in an Isuzu SUV, Barger said. Deputies caught up with the suspects on McManamon Road and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The SUV reportedly reached speeds of 90 mph in an attempt to elude deputies, he stated. Spike strips were deployed across the roadway by the Othello Police Department but failed to stop the vehicle.

Both suspects reportedly exited the vehicle near June Street. The unidentified passenger eluded deputies.

Barger said the identity of the suspect is known to law enforcement and the male is believed to be in hiding. Deputies continue to search for him.

Juarez, who was allegedly driving the SUV, reportedly fled to a residence known to the suspects, Barger said. Deputies and police surrounded the residence.

A 16-year-old male reportedly ran from the residence wearing Juarez's clothing in an attempt to lead law enforcement away from the home, he noted. An officer caught the 16-year-old who was arrested for felony probation warrants.

Juarez reportedly crawled out a window and fled on foot toward Othello, Barger stated. He reportedly reached a lateral canal, jumped in and was arrested shortly after.

He was arrested for two counts of residential burglary and one count of attempting to elude law enforcement.

Barger said a search warrant for the suspect vehicle was being served Thursday by deputies. He said officers could see stolen jewelry, tires and wheels inside the vehicle.
