SPOKANE - More than 50 Moses Lake basketball players attended the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA camp Tuesday in Spokane.

The camp is directed toward boys and girls ages 9 to 13 from community organizations associated with the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA program, said City of Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Supervisor Lori Moholt-Phillips.

A focus of the camp was to teach youth development, she said.

"It's pledge to be a S.T.A.R.," she said. "Sportsmanship. Teamwork. Attitude. Respect."

The camp also promoted the fundamentals of basketball including passing, dribbling, shooting and defensive skills.

Former NBA legends Bob Lanier and Craig Ehlo hosted the camp with former WNBA star Andrea Stinson and Portland Trail Blazers star Martell Webster helped coach, Moholt-Phillips said.

The camp was a success, especially for the Moses Lake participants, Moholt-Phillips said.

"It was awesome," she said. "It emphasized the S.T.A.R. program. Sports have become so specialized and competitive. I like the S.T.A.R. aspect the program teaches."

Moses Lake High School girls basketball player Jordan Loera helped coach the camp and teach aspects of the S.T.A.R. program, Moholt-Phillips said.
