The Superior Bobcats Football Team is gearing up for another strong season and their head coach can hardly stop saying positive things about them.

“They’ve been excellent, they couldn’t have been better,” said Bobcats Head Coach Dan Lucier.

Lucier said that there are 38 football players working hard at their practices. He added that he plans to have all of them suit up for varsity games so he has no real numbers on which will be varsity and which will be junior varsity players.

Last year the team came out 5-3 and fifth place in their league and Lucier said that he thinks this team is probably one of the top four in the league.

“They’re just a great bunch of kids, all of them,” Lucier said.

Lucier said that despite their skills and dedication this season they will have some tough competition with the teams from Drummond and Victor, among others.

So far, Lucier has been pushing the team to think about their first game coming up on Sept. 5 and has finished up his practices telling the team what they need to do to win their first game.

Lucier said that they have spent a lot of time in practice working on specifics and getting all of their plays memorized so they can execute them smoothly and quickly.

They have also been working on the inner mechanics of the game and making sure knows the teams’ game plan.

“We’re spending a lot of time on the little things,” Lucier said.

With their first game fast approaching, Lucier said he thinks the team will be a formidable force this season.

“They’ve got a great attitude, they’re working hard and they’re having fun. I’m just looking forward to a great season,” Lucier said.

In order to raise money for the team, the Superior Booster Club is holding a steak fry Thursday evening at Superior High School.

The event is sponsored by Superior Meats and starts at 6 p.m. in the Superior High School Multi Purpose Room. The price is $12 for adults and $6 for kids. All of the proceeds go the Superior Boosters Club.

Lucier said that he encourages everyone to come out and enjoy some good food and support high school athletics.
