Bulldog grapplers fall to Chiefs, Wildcats

The Bulldog wrestlers opened up their season at home on Friday night, going down 0-63 to the Ronan Chiefs and 27-54 to Columbia Falls. It was the opening dual of the 2008 Northwestern A wrestling season for all teams.
The Whitefish boys forfeited twice to Ronan and four times to Columbia Falls because they didn’t have wrestlers at those weight classes.
Zach Berger (119) and Kaleb Prestegaard (152) had pins for Whitefish.
The battle between Berger, a junior, and Ronan senior Zach Robinson got the crowd into the match. Both young men struggled for positioning throughout the match and wrestled with energy. Robinson eventually won by an 8-2 decision, but Berger gave him a fight.
Whitefish senior Steven Vail (135) gave the Wildcats’ Travis Pete a run for his money, battling his pin moves several times before Pete finally got the Bulldog to the mat at the 2:47 mark.
The Whitefish wrestlers will travel to the Butte Invitational Tournament this weekend.
