MOSES LAKE —The Moses Lake wrestling team continued their dominance Tuesday night at home by dispatching Columbia Basin Big Nine conference rival Kennewick 71-9.
The Chiefs capitalized on 10 pins Tuesday night to improve to 3-0 in dual matches this season.
Moses Lake head coach Jamie Wise said his team out-wrestled Kennewick in the Moses Lake High School gym.
“We totally dominated them,” he said. “It was over pretty quick.”
Moses Lake began the night with a pin by Nicco Moreno at 130 pounds as the Chiefs wrestled their way to a 6-0 lead.
The Chiefs earned five consecutive pins through 152 pounds when Sammy Villegas pinned Jason Whitehead in 2:36 and Moses Lake jumped out to a commanding 30-0 lead.
Wise said Villegas is continuing to wrestle well.
“Sammy kept on his way of destroying good wrestlers,” he said.
Moses Lake lost one match Tuesday night when Saul Soto defeated Logan Phelps 13-7 at 160 pounds. The Chiefs also forfeited one match to Kennewick at 171 pounds.
The Chiefs are coming off of a second place finish at the Inland Empire wrestling tournament last weekend and the team maintained its composer Tuesday night.
“We kept up the intensity following last weekend’s tournament,” Wise said.
The Chiefs return to action this weekend when they participate in the Tri-State Invitational tournament in Coeur d'Alene.
