MOSES LAKE — After a Moses Lake family lost their home to a fire Dec. 15, the First Presbyterian Church in Moses Lake went to work collecting donations to help the family start over.

“They’re a wonderful family,” church Pastor Eric Frey said.

George and Amy Ottmar and their 9-year-old son lost their home after an accidental fire began while they were attempting to thaw pipes in their home on Frontage Road, located between Warden and Moses Lake.

Grant County Fire Districts 4 and 5 responded to the incident. The home was destroyed, District 4 Chief Randy Wiggins said in a previous interview.

The family is temporarily staying in a hotel and will move to a temporary home in Mar Don after Christmas, Frey said.

There was some insurance coverage that could help pay for the cost of the structure but not enough to replace the contents, he said. Everything was destroyed, including their Christmas tree and wrapped gifts. Furniture, clothes, pictures and other personal belongings were ruined.

The family hopes to move back to Moses Lake after they are relocated to Mar Don because the adults work in Moses Lake and the boy attends school in the Moses Lake School District, he said.

Frey said if people would like to help the Ottmar family, they can donate funds to Bank of America in Moses Lake under the George and Amy Ottmar Fire Recovery Fund. The bank is located at 103 E. Third Ave., in Moses Lake.

The church will distribute funds from the bank to the family, he said.
