MOSES LAKE — Senior Josh Loera joined an elite group Friday night when he scored his 1,000th career point for the Moses Lake boys basketball team in the Chiefs’ 58-51 loss against the Wenatchee Panthers.

Loera said he was not focused on the milestone heading into Friday’s game.

“I was just letting it come to me,” he said. “If I started (thinking about) doing it, it wouldn’t come.”

Loera finished the night with 26 points and 1,019 in his career at Moses Lake High School.

With 1, 019 career points, Loera is in second place behind Moses Lake career scoring leader Jordan Reffett.

Reffett scored 1,230 points in his career.

After Friday night’s game, Loera said he is proud to have accomplished the feat.

“It’s pretty awesome,” he said. “ It means a lot, basketball has been my life.”

Although Loera joined an exclusive club Friday night, he insists the season is about the team.

“We did really good,” he said. “We are starting to come together as a team.”

Loera’s 1,000th point came four minutes into the game’s second quarter when he was fouled driving to the basket.

“It came on an and-one,” he said. “I didn’t know I made it until I got to the free-throw line.”

After the game, Loera said the sense of accomplishment is still with him.

“I finally did it,” he said. “I’m still pretty excited, not that we lost, but it feels pretty amazing.
